ZOTUP IN PILLS | ENERGY SPD: WHAT IS THE MINIMUM CROSS-SECTION OF PHASE / NEUTRAL CABLES?
In the latest episode of ZOTUP IN PILLS, we explained the minimum cross-section of earth connection cables. In this episode, we will clarify the minimum cross-section of phase/neutral connection cables.
When installing an energy surge protection device (also known as low-voltage SPD) inside an electrical panel, it is important to consider that, just like for earth cables, the minimum cross-section of phase/neutral cables is not fixed but varies according to the Test Class of the device.
According to the IEC 62305 STANDARD, the minimum cross-section of phase and neutral connection cables should be:
- 16 mm² for a Class I SPD;
- 6 mm² for a Class II SPD.
