SPD: INSTALLATION TIPS

SPD: INSTALLATION TIPS
  • Manual for Electrical Designers

The insertion of SPDs in the system can be nullified, in whole or in part, by incorrect wiring. The IEC 60364-5-534 standard provides important indications regarding connections, aimed at reducing the dynamic voltage drops that occur on the cables to a minimum.< br />To understand the importance of this aspect, we must remember that the impulsive lightning current has a growth dynamic of approximately 10 kA/µs. In this context the inductive components of the wiring take precedence over the resistive ones and it is It is easy for voltage drops of the order of 1 kV per meter to occur. The simple connection measures, illustrated alongside, allow you to optimize the insertion of the SPDs.

The V connection is facilitated in many SPDs by the presence of double terminals. On several occasions, however, it is not serious; achievable due to the high currents involved and the consequent sections of the cables. With the help of the CP series accessories it is often possible to equally optimize the cabling.

The impulsive current of the lightning in traveling through the wiring cables also generates a field electromagnetic capable of inducing overvoltages in adjacent circuits. Reducing the turns inside the panel optimizes the wiring.
